Always Be Listening
so many opportunities
That’s one thing I learned from the Beyond The Feed Workshop, thanks to cofacilitator Viv Corringham. She didn’t exactly say “always be listening'“ but that was one of my biggest take aways. Living in New York City, I struggle with NOISE. Construction, honking, sirens, people, helicopters etc etc etc. Some days my nervous system feels so fried. Other days I am completely desensitized and I don’t even hear it. In Viv’s session, we spent some time listening to the space around us. As a friend and study of Pauline Oliveros, Viv told us to listen to the noise non-judgmentally. It is neither bad nor good. It just merely exists. Been thinking about that a lot lately.

Listening Tomorrow - June 12
Tomorrow I am hosting a listening event with Selects + Radiotopia for the Tribeca Audio Festival. We are going to be playing a curated selection of audio all on the theme of this noisy ass city! I called in a couple favors from some of my favorite fellow Radiotopians to help curate the selection. Some of them will be there live to help me introduce the work. RSVPs are technically sold out but the event is free and there will likely be a few no-shows if you want to come. The event is at 11 am at DCTV’s Firehouse Cinema. More info here.
Listen Some More - June 16
Sarah Kramer and I are back with out third installment of Listening Party! You might have seen my absolutely pitiful attempt at an instagram page. I am frankly too boomer to social media these days. Like how do I even…post. But follow us anyways to keep up with our events before I throw my phone in the sea! We have an incredible selection of work from all of the world that I am so excited to share plus a very special ~live~ moment. I’ve already said too much! Due to popular demand and to accommodate the Knicks schedule we have TWO shows. 6pm and 8pm! This is going to be a banger and you will not want to miss it. If inflation got you fucked, I have a couple of comps for each show and would be happy to give them out to anyone who wants. Just let me know. Tickets and info here. Jalen says they are going to win it in 5 but just in case get tix to the 6pm show!
Sounds Like America, vol 1
Yesterday a short sound piece that I made aired on The Hub & Spoke Radio Hour. It’s 3 mins long and was recorded at Brighton Beach and Fort Tilden. It’s quiet, contemplative and a nice listen as it warms up and we head to the beach. There is also a moment where I used a contact mic for the nerds out there. The hour is full of short stories and sound pieces and I recommend a listen. Additionally they are accepting submissions for the next round of sonic postcards due July 15. Highly recommend submitting!
one last thing…
